Pengertian, jenis dan contoh teks exposition

Pada kesempatan kali ini, saya akan membahas mengenai teks exposition. Teks exposition adalah jenis teks yang banyak kita jumpai dalam bacaan sehari-hari walaupun tidak semua orang tahu bahwa yang kita baca itu. Teks ini di bagi menjadi 2 yaitu analytical exposition dan hortatory exposition. Kedua jenis teks ini tergolong teks argumentative atau bisa di sebut juga teks yang mengedepankan argument dalam suatu masalah. Perbedaan dari 2 jenis teks exposition ini terletak pada akhir paragraf, analytical exposition menggunakan reiteration (penulisan kembali ide pokok yang terdapat di paragraf pertama) sedangkan hortatory exposition ditutup dengan recommendation (ajakan kepada pembaca untuk mengikuti saran yang dilampirkan pengarang).

1.      Analytical exposition

§  Deskripsi

Analytical exposition text adalah teks yang berisi tentang pemikiran terperinci penulis tentang sebuah kejadian atau peristiwa yang ada di sekitar.

§  Struktur

-          Thesis

Di bagian Thesis, penulis memperkenalkan topik atau ide pokok yang akan dibahas. Thesis selalu berada di paragraf pertama.

-          Argument

Di bagian ini penulis memberikan argumen-argumen yang mendukung ide pokok penulis teks tersebut. Biasanya dalam sebuah analytical exposition text terdapat lebih dari dua argumen. Semakin banyak argumen yang ditampilkan, semakin membuat pembaca percaya bahwa topik yang dibahas oleh penulis adalah topik yang sangat penting atau membutuhkan perhatian.

-          Reiteration

Bagian ini merupakan bagian penutup dari sebuah analytical exposition text yang selalu terletak di akhir paragraf. Reiteration berisi penulisan kembali atau penempatan kembali ide pokok yang terdapat di paragraf pertama. Reiteration juga biasa disebut dengan conclusion atau kesimpulan.

Contoh :

-         Thesis

Conventionally, students need book, pen, eraser, drawing book, ruler and such other stuff. Additionally, in this multimedia era, students need more to reach their progressive development. Students need mobile keyboards to record every presented subject easily. Of course it will need more cost but it will deserve for its function.

-          Argument 1

First, modern schools tend to apply fast transferring knowledge because the school needs to catch the target of curriculum. Every subject will tend to be given in demonstrative method. Consequently, students need extra media cover the subject. Since there is a laptop on every student’s desk, this method will help student to get better understanding.

-          Argument 2

Secondly, finding an appropriate laptop is not difficult as it was. Recently there is an online shop which provides comprehensive information. The best is that the shop has service of online shopping. The students just need to brows that online shop, decide which computer or laptop they need, and then complete the transaction. After that the laptop will be delivered to the students' houses. That is really easy and save time and money.

-          Reiteration

From all of that, having mobile computer is absolutely useful for students who want to catch the best result for their study.

2.      Hortatory exposition

·         Deskripsi

Hortatory Exposition adalah sebuah jenis teks exposition yang dalam teks ini menghadirkan usaha penulis memengaruhi pembaca untuk melakukan sesuatu atau bertindak dalam hal tertentu. Dalam Hortatory Exposition, penulis mencantumkan beberapa pendapat mengenai hal tertentu untuk memperkuat ide pokok  dari teks tersebut.

·         Struktur

-          Thesis

Thesis berisi tentang pengenalan ide pokok penulis tentang suatu gejala atau kejadian yang akan diangkat.

-          Arguments

Arguments berisi tentang pendapat-pendapat yang mendukung ide pokok penulis. Semakin banyak pendapat yang ditulis penulis, semakin menarik sebuah Hortatory Exposition Text itu, karena pembaca cenderung percaya terhadap suatu peristiwa jika terdapat banyak pendapat yang mendukung di dalamnya.

-          Recommendation

Recommendation berisi tentang rekomendasi atau ajakan penulis terhadap pembaca.

Contoh :

1.      Thesis

English nowadays has an important role in our daily life. It is the massive means of communication. Is there a strong argument which says that English will not give any benefit? 

2.      Argument 1

Learning to speak English well may be the best way to improve our life. It seems all the people in the world have agreed to use English to talk to each other. About 1,500,000,000 people in the world speak English. While another 1,000,000,000 are still learning English.

3.      Argument 2

If we can communicate in English, we can contact people from all over the world. We can talk about our ideas and opinions on Internet discussion groups. We can chat with other interesting people to learn about their life and culture.

4.      Argument 3

If we can communicate in English, we can travel more easily. English is spoken in more than 100 countries. If we lost, we can ask directions or ask for help. Who knows, English will save our life somewhere someday.

5.      Argument 4

That is why we should make every effort possible to find somebody to speak with. Where can we find people who can speak English with us? We can find them at school, shopping mall, tourist destination, etc

6.      Recommendation

Above all, don't be afraid to speak English. We must try to speak, even if we make mistakes. We cannot learn without mistakes. So, speak English as much as possible!
